Pubs in Poplar

Poplar sits just west of Canary Wharf's glass towers, a neighbourhood where old East End residential streets meet the overspill of the financial district. The area has long been shaped by the docks that once dominated this stretch of the Thames, and while much has been redeveloped, you'll still find traces of its industrial past alongside modern housing and the occasional surviving local. It's not really a destination for a night out in itself, but it serves office workers spilling out from Canary Wharf and residents looking for something nearby.

The pubs reflect this split personality. BrewDog Canary Wharf and The Alchemist Canary Wharf cater to the after-work crowd with craft beer and cocktails, while The Greenwich Pensioner and Hope and Anchor offer something more traditional, with beer gardens and a neighbourhood feel. Most of the drinking happens around the edges, either catching the Canary Wharf trade or serving the quieter residential pockets that remain.
