Photos line the compact bar, where wine takes priority over beer and phones, televisions, music and machines are left out. Actors, writers, artists, royalty, bohemians and people from the film world are all part of its long-standing crowd, alongside first-time visitors.

The restaurant serves lunch and dinner from a small upstairs room, with a menu written around what is available that day. Warm madeleines with lemon curd are a noted finish, and the room takes groups of up to six.
