Pub classics, treated like dinner

Small plates run from pork pie with piccalilli and leek rarebit to egg mayonnaise with smoked eel and a fish finger roll. For something more substantial, there is chicken and tarragon pie, cod with celeriac and bacon, beef rump and T-bone with marrow. Sunday diners can also settle in for roasts, with reviewers singling out the chicken pie, beef and pork.

A local boozer with a longer drinks list

The bar has Portobello Pils, Allsopp’s IPA, Verdant Lightbulb and other craft ales alongside classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Negroni and Margarita. The wine list stretches from Vinho Verde and Grüner Veltliner to Burgundy, Champagne and English sparkling wine. Dogs and children are welcome, and sport is shown here too.
