A cosy local with a story to tell

Established in 1853, The Surprise has a long Chelsea history and takes its name from HMS Surprise, the captured French corvette associated with Admiral Nelson. Today, its richly coloured, relaxed interiors include plush seating, books, board games and a real log fire, with the light-filled Hamilton Room available for private dining and events.

Seasonal cooking and proper pub favourites

The regularly changing menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients, with British-inspired dishes alongside classic pub choices such as burgers, pies, fish and chips, sandwiches and steak. There are vegetarian options and a Sunday roast, while the bar brings cocktails, craft ales and a wide selection of wine and spirits.
