A warm Canonbury pub with a full week of music

The pub’s two adjoining bars bring together traditional tables, banquette seating and a piano by the door, with a smaller rear bar for a cosier sit-down. Mondays bring a pub quiz from 7.30pm, Tuesdays have jazz, and Wednesdays are given over to Winyl Wednesdays, with bottle-wine offers on regular DJ nights. Sunday trad sessions start at 4pm.

The garden

Drinks, food and fresh air out back

A few steps down, the decked beer garden has a snug area and an outdoor kitchen called The New River Grill. The menu covers classic pub food, including burgers, fries and vegetarian and vegan options, while the bar serves familiar favourites and a cask ale. Wednesday’s cheese and wine night pairs six wines with a generous plate of cheeses and crackers.
